Sometimes I like to get suggestions from other people on what to read. If you are like me, The New York Times best seller list is an excellent reference since it tells you what everyone is reading the most. Here are some books on Freading that are in the top 10 of this current week’s NYT best sellers lists.

Author Janice Macleod is on the NYT best -seller list for the first time in her career with her adventurous and humor-filled memoir called Paris Letters. Ms. Macleod tells readers exactly how she calculated the amount of money she would need to save in order to quit her job and start her life over in a new city. Her book is number seven under the “Travel” category of the Times’ list this week.

The amazing memoir by top-selling author Pat Conroy entitled The Water is Wide is number four under E-Book Nonfiction. It tells about the author’s experience teaching on an impoverished island off of South Carolina. The Times calls it “A hell of a good story.”

What If ? by Randall Monroe is a passionate pursue of answers that was previously a #1 Best Seller and is still a top ten under Hardcover Non-Fiction.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry  by Gabrielle Zevin is a completely engaging story that  was a LibraryReads #1 pick for the year of 2014 and was called “irresistible” by critics at Booklist. It is a book you won’t be able to put down.

A best-seller in E-Book Non-Fiction is Adventure of English by Melvin Bragg. It’s the remarkable story that looks at the history of the English language and how it grew to be as powerful as it is today.

Every animal lover should read How To Tell if Your Cat is Plotting To Kill You by Matthew Inman. The humor in it is priceless and appropriate for almost all age groups.

Mr. Inman also wrote another book on the current best seller list called The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances, which will make you want to lace up your running shoes the moment you are done reading it. In review of this book, NPR writes “"He runs. He sweats. He heaves. He hates it. He loves it. He runs so hard his toenails fall off. He asks himself, why? Why do I do this? Here, gorgeously, bravely, hilariously, is Matt's deeply honest answer."

The Best American Essays 2014 is an anthology of the most engrossing essays published. Publishers Weekly called this edition “exhilarating”

Altitude Adjustment by Mary Beth Baptiste is the
story of a suburban Massachusetts woman who divorces her husband of 15 years to pursue her dream of living in the Rocky Mountains.
